Chart Your Own Path to Discovery for PATAPSCO DAYS

New Compass Learning Adventure for Adults Premiers With Self-Guided Exploration for Patapsco Days Theme

Howard County Library System(HCLS) is partnering with Patapsco Heritage Greenway(PHG) in March to pilot COMPASS Learning Adventures-- a new self-guided, blended educational experience for adults. The pilot learning module was developed as part of PHG's Patapsco Days: Creating Change in the 20th Century. The new, online interface provides a menu of related activities, readings, and historic site visits that explore the history of community driven change. Participants will learn about the protest movements and actions that prompted seismic political, environmental, and cultural changes in the Patapsco Valley area.

Customers can chart their own learning adventure by selecting the activities, events, site visits and readings they find of interest. The Compass Learning experience for Patapsco Days consists of various activities that range from listening to a podcast, attending a Patapsco Day event, or visiting a local museum. Participants choose the activities they wish to complete. Once an activity is completed a corresponding badge is unlocked and participants are automatically entered into a prize drawing. Reading is always an activity option and a 20th Century Activist Book List with selected titles is available.

For every Patapsco Days activity completed between March 1 and March 31, 2019, participants earn an entry into the drawing for a gift basket filled with HCLS and PHG surprises! A winner will be randomly selected from all entries on April 8 and notified by phone or email. The program is open to those 18 years of age or older.
