Columbia Orchestra Music Director Steps Down After 24 Years

Columbia Orchestra music director Jason Love has announced he will be leaving the orchestra this summer.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — For 24 years, Columbia Orchestra conductor Jason Love has been at the helm but will be stepping down June 30.

“I've spent about half my life as the Columbia Orchestra's music director and although I could gladly stay here forever, there are other artistic endeavors besides conducting orchestras I want to try,” Love said. “I can't thank you all enough for 24 wonderful years. I am very proud of the times we've had together and am excited to see the amazing things in store. I want to thank the marvelous musicians past and present from the bottom of my heart.”

In the fall of 1977, a handful of local string players began performing classical music as the Columbia Chamber Orchestra. Love took over as music director in 1999 and in recent years, the orchestra has drawn an estimated 11,000 music lovers to its performances annually.
