Dog Mauled Columbia Woman To Death: Police

Police said a Columbia woman was attacked and killed in her backyard by a dog she recently adopted.

COLUMBIA, MD — A woman who adopted a dog two weeks ago was reportedly mauled to death by the animal in her backyard. Police said the Columbia woman was found Monday evening in her backyard, with significant injuries and the dog standing over her.

Robin Conway, 64, was pronounced deceased when officers arrived at the residence on Tamar Drive.

Officials said a relative found Conway around 7:20 p.m. on Labor Day, then called 911 and tied the dog to a fence post until help could arrive.

"The dog, still attached to the post, was barking and lunging on the leash and had to be subdued by animal control officers and ultimately euthanized," the Howard County Police Department said in a statement. "A necropsy will be performed to determine if the dog had rabies or any other medical issues."

Police said there was no information about the dog other than that the animal was a pit bull adopted from out of state in the past two weeks.

Conway had thought she could help him, and the incident should not "be held against all pit bulls or pit bull mixes because there are some lovely ones out there," her sister told WBAL TV.

Officials said they had not responded to any previous animal control-related issues at the residence.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death of Conway.
