The rain-or-shine event will be at Columbia Athletic Club, 5435 Beaverkill Road, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 13.
To get rid of a freezer or refrigerator, items must be in working condition and be of standard size (10 to 30 cubic feet). BGE will give customers $50 for these items. The limit is two refrigerators or freezers, and people must schedule pickup online or by calling 866-898-1901. Air conditioners and dehumidifiers may be picked up at the same time as a fridge or freezer.
The purpose of the drive is to increase energy efficiency, according to BGE.
“Recycling your old appliances helps prevent them from entering landfills, where they can release harmful toxins and greenhouse gases into the environment,” Chris Walls, manager of energy efficient programs for BGE, said in a statement. “By participating in this event, BGE customers are helping Maryland reduce energy use and waste.”
