'No Active Shooter' At Oakland Mills: School Officials

There was a large police presence at two Columbia schools due to a phone call, officials said.

COLUMBIA, MD — A phone call advising the Howard County 911 center that there was an active shooter at two Columbia schools Friday morning drew a large police presence to both campuses, officials said. Investigators determined the information was inaccurate after police responded to both Oakland Mills Middle and Oakland Mills High schools on Kilimanjaro Road. The schools are about 0.4 mile apart.

"There was no active shooter," school officials said in a statement.

This morning, an unverified phone call came in to the Howard County 911 call center regarding an active shooter at Oakland Mills middle and high schools. A sizable police team responded and determined there was no active shooter. All students and staff at both schools are safe in the buildings.We wanted to let families and the community know there was not an active shooter situation at the schools today, that all students are safe, and the school day will continue as normal. Additional counseling supports are available for any students or staff who request it. The safety of our students, staff and community is our highest priority and we will always take every precaution to ensure it.
