Arundel Breezes Past North County, 49-13

Cooper Hibbs threw for four touchdown passes and Tyler Young returned a kickoff for a score, as the Arundel High Wildcats topped the North County Knights, 49-13 on Friday night in Glen Burnie.

The Wildcats moved to 5-0 on the season, while the Knights fell to 2-3.

Arundel got things started with a 19-yard touchdown run from Gary Cropper on the team’s opening drive. But North County responded quickly, as quarterback Robert Jordan hit Brandon Blankenship with a 40-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 7-7.

The Wildcats took a 14-7 lead when Tyler Young ran the ensuing kickoff back 77 yards for the score. North County responded when running back Omar Adams scored on an eight-yard run near the end of the first quarter, but the team failed to convert the extra point.

That’s when Hibbs hit his groove, throwing four touchdown passes before halftime to give the Wildcats a 42-13 lead. Cropper and Young each scored on passes from Hibbs, who also connected with Dillon Tighe and Romeo Harris.

Hibbs finished 19-25 for 275 yards with four touchdowns.

Blake Thornton ran for 34 yards on four carries and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, the Arundel defense kept the Knights in check, as Jordan completed just four passes for eight yards for North County, while throwing two interceptions.

Omar Adams rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown for North County.

Arundel now faces Old Mill, the only other remaining undefeated team in the county. The Patriots beat 40-14 on Friday night.

North County plays at Meade next Friday.
