Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks serves millions of residents and visitors annually through a wide variety of services and programs. Its primary focus is to provide comprehensive recreational programs for residents and safeguard valuable land through the maintenance and management of over 160 parks and natural areas. The department manages specialized recreational facilities, including two swim centers, two golf courses, three ice rinks, a baseball stadium, a softball complex, and programs tailored to diverse needs ranging from school-age childcare to adaptive recreation. It also cares for thousands of acres of land, encompassing community parks, greenways, archaeological sites, environmental and historical preserves, and large regional parks spanning several hundred acres. Its mission is to create opportunities that allow individuals to enjoy life, explore nature, and restore their health and well-being. SHADY SIDE, MD — A Shady Side residence sustained an estimated $150,000 damage from a fire Sunday morning, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.Firefighters responded to the 1500 block of Columbia Cove Court just before 10 a.m., where they found smoke coming from the eaves of a two-story single-family home. Firefighters brought the fire under control in about 30 minutes.Authorities say the cause of the fire is under investigation by the department's Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit.No injuries were reported. The owners were not home at the time of the fire.
