Crofton High School Supporters Plan Rally

Supporters hoping to persuade the Anne Arundel County Public Schools board to build a high school in Crofton will be at this week's meeting.

Build Crofton High School supporters will rally at the Anne Arundel County Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m., according to the group’s Facebook page.

The members want to encourage the board to include a 13th high school in the Capital Improvement Plan, and build it in Crofton. The group will gather at 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot at the Parham Building, 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis.

The community’s students are split between South River and Anne Arundel high schools.

In an editorial board meeting with The Capital last week, Schools Superintendent George Arlotto said the school system is planning an updated study of school needs. But he doesn’t advocate moving Crofton High School up on the current list of projects.

“The schools that have been on the (project) list, we’ve asked them to wait patiently,” Arlotto told the newspaper.
