Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks serves millions of residents and visitors annually through a wide variety of services and programs. Its primary focus is to provide comprehensive recreational programs for residents and safeguard valuable land through the maintenance and management of over 160 parks and natural areas. The department manages specialized recreational facilities, including two swim centers, two golf courses, three ice rinks, a baseball stadium, a softball complex, and programs tailored to diverse needs ranging from school-age childcare to adaptive recreation. It also cares for thousands of acres of land, encompassing community parks, greenways, archaeological sites, environmental and historical preserves, and large regional parks spanning several hundred acres. Public Archaeological Dig Day at SERC Saturday, August 11th   (10:30-12 and 12:30-2)   Interested in exploring local history while engaging with active science?  Join a professionally led archaeological team conducting an excavation around SERC's 1841 Homestead House as they unravel the history of the site.  Learn the basics of archaeological field methods as you sift screen for artifacts.  No experience required.   This free program is open to ages 10 and up; children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.  If interested, please contact volunteer coordinator Julia Elkin at <a href="mailto:elkinj@si.edu" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">elkinj@si.edu</a> to register for a time slot and receive further details.  You must be registered to participate.
