Navy Midshipmen's 'Naptown Funk' Video Goes Viral

The service academy students took to the streets of Annapolis to produce their take on "Uptown Funk." And throw shade on Army.

They’re the future defenders of America’s shores – and they flash some serious dance moves.

Midshipmen from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis posted a YouTube video Sunday that shows their spin on the ubiquitous “Uptown Funk” videoby Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars.

The mids in their white uniforms re-created the video with no money, and an all-midshipmen cast and crew, they said on YouTube about “Naptown Funk.”

“Salute myself, I’m so pretty,” is one of the lyrics tweaked for life in Annapolis.

While that line earned some jabs online, grad Eric Reinhold was in the majority who praised the Navy video: “I’m old school grad ‘88, but you guys are doing an awesome job with these videos. Army guys are waaaay too serious to get a spoof and air force guys... well, their air force. Keep up the good work.”

The revamped, catchy chorus is all about life in Annapolis:

“Mids strollin’ in Downtown, Mids chillin’ on the dock now, Mids runnin’ all around now, cause Naptown Funk gonna give it to you.”

There’s also a shot across the bow to uber rival Army, which the video says will be crushed by Navy in this year’s gridiron matchup. The two service academy teams face off at 3 p.m. ET Saturday, Dec.12, in Philadelphia; the game will be broadcast by CBS.

With a challenge to other Navy ports San Diego, Norfolk, Va, and Chicago, the video ends with a chorus of Naptown Funk meshed with “Anchors Away” by the Trident Brass.
