Authorities are asking residents and business owners to mark marine, commercial, equipment and tractor batteries in some way -- etching an identification (registration or license) number on the battery, painting the battery, etc. Police also suggest marking construction, storage and commercial areas with “NO TRESPASSING” so officers patrolling the area can take action if they see anything suspicious.

Police also suggest fencing off these private areas and inspecting your property and equipment on a regular basis.
