Two Injured, One Critical, in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Edgewater
A three-car collision on Saturday shut down Solomons Island Road for much of the afternoon.
Two people were injured and one is in critical condition after a multi-vehicle crash just before 1 p.m. on Saturday in Edgewater.
According to police, Pamela Dittmar of Severna Park, was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry southbound on Solomon’s Island Road when the Camry rear-ended a 2007 Ford Focus, driven by a 16-year-old student driver of the Summit Driving School in Arbutus, who was uninjured. The passenger, Derrick Lewis, was taken to the hospital, treated and released.
The Camry continued into the turn lane for Stepney’s Lane when it struck a 1991 Honda Accord on the driver's side. The Accord was driven by Charmaine Richardson of Harwood, police said. She was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma with critical injuries.

The Honda Accord was split in two pieces as a result of the impact. The Toyota Camry continued up a grass embankment striking a tree and overturning onto its roof before coming to rest, according to the press release.
Dittmar, the driver of the Camry, was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center where she was treated and released with minor injuries.

A preliminary investigation suggests that alcohol was not a factor in this crash although it is yet to be determined if speed or aggressive driving are factors, according to the press release. The investigation is still ongoing.
