Ellicott City Clock And Post Found In Patapsco River

People have literally been picking up the pieces of the clock from historic Ellicott City after the May flood.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — The Ellicott City clock face and post have been located. The clock had been put in place in 2017 after the 2016 flood.

During the most recent flood on May 27, the clock again washed away.

As business owners and residents work to recover from the event, which the National Weather Service said caused localized landslides and catastrophic damage, people are literally picking up the pieces of Ellicott City after the flood.

About a month earlier, the face of the clock was located.

Geoff and Mark Haver of Ellicott City were the ones who found the clock in the Patapsco River on Saturday, June 2.

An officer from the Howard County Police Department helped them get it out of the river, county officials said, noting the clock would be put in a storage facility until further notice.

After the last flood, which occurred on July 30, 2016, two residents discovered parts of the clock and firefighters retrieved it after they finished searching for people or vehicles stuck in the Patapsco River.

When the clock was put back in place after the 2016 flood, a concrete marker at the base said "8-3-16," the date the clock was returned to its spot, providing one familiar landmark in a town where floodwaters damaged dozens of buildings and killed two people.

It was not clear when the clock would be reinstalled after the May 27, 2018, flood.

The clock was donated by the Kiwanis Club of Ellicott City and had a marker on it that said "Ellicott City" as well as the phrase, "Est. 1772." The original clock was installed to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Kiwanis Club in 2000 and the 150th anniversary of Howard County in 2001.

The clock stood outside the B&O Railroad Station Museum.
