Two men are accused of pulling a gun on a drive-thru cashier and stealing cash from a Kensington McDonald's, police said.

GAITHERSBURG, MD — Two Maryland men accused of robbing a McDonald's drive-thru were located by authorities this week while making a purchase at another McDonald's, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police.

Zachary Kinnell, 21, and Brian Elzey, 20, both of Upper Marlboro, were charged with armed robbery after robbing a McDonald’s restaurant located in the 2700 block of University Boulevard West in Kensington, police said.

According to authorities, the pair traveled to the University Boulevard McDonald's shortly after 2 a.m. on Aug. 3 in a silver Chevrolet Cruz. They entered the drive-thru and ordered food, police said, and when they approached the cashier, they took out a gun and told the cashier to leave.

After the cashier complied, police said one of the men reached through the window and grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. The men left, traveling eastbound on University Boulevard West, according to police.

Shortly before 1 a.m. the next day, police said they saw the same silver Chevy Cruz enter a McDonald's drive-thru located 12100 block of Veirs Mill Road. Officers followed the car after its two occupants ordered food and left the restaurant.
