Shady Grove Adventist Wins International Award
Hospital is being recognized for its breastfeeding education program.

Shady Grove Adventist Hospital has received the International Board Certified Lactation Consultants Care Award this week, making it the first hospital in the state to be given the honor.
"The international award recognizes the exceptional education and support the hospital's clinical team provides to breastfeeding families," according to a news release from the hospital.
In order to receive the award, a hospital must hire an IBCLC-credentialed breastfeeding consultant, offer a lactation class at least five days a week, train hospital staff that work directly with new mothers, and "initiate projects that promote, protect and support breastfeeding."

“We are pleased to be recognized for our quality lactation support,” Dennis Hansen, the hospital's president, said in the release. “This international award demonstrates our commitment to providing an important service to families in our community."
The Rockville hospital delivers 5,000 babies per year and each new mother is given the opportunity to partake in the daily breastfeeding classes and support groups on site and over the phone from home.
