HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — Havre de Grace was illuminated red Tuesday night to memorialize Lt. Nathan Flynn on the one-year anniversary of his death. Flynn, 34, died in a seven-alarm fire in Howard County on July 23, 2018.

He is survived by his wife, Celeste Flynn, and five children, who live in Havre de Grace, where he volunteered with the Susquehanna Hose Company and was a member of the Harford County Technical Rescue Team.

Flynn had been a career firefighter in the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services for 13 years and was known for always training. His death has sparked calls for reform in the agency. A more than 700-page report released Monday revealed there were vital lapses related to policies, training and communication that created confusion at the fire ground, leading Flynn into the fire and also hindering efforts to get him out.
