Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway projects receive three grants from MHAA

Three heritage tourism projects located in the Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway have been awarded a total of nearly $140,000 in matching grants from the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority.

A grant of $20,000 was awarded to the City of Havre de Grace for Concord Point Park. The grant will support the engineering, site work and utility costs to extend the length of the Promenade (Greenway Trail) across a newly acquired property adjacent to Concord Point Park.

A grant of $19,461 has been given to Susquehanna Museum of Havre de Grace, Inc., for phase two of the Lock House Museum’s historic window and shutter rehabilitation project. The funds will be used to rehabilitate the windows on the first floor.

The third and final grant of $100,000 was awarded to Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway for heritage area management, project reinvestment and a mini-grant program.

Maryland Heritage Areas Authority awarded 58 matching grants totaling $2,724,457 to Maryland nonprofit organizations, local jurisdictions and tourism groups. Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway is a nonprofit organization based in Darlington whose mission is to stimulate local economic activity by developing a linkage to natural, historic and cultural resources through land and water recreational trails. To date, 22 miles of continuous public recreation trails connecting Harford and Cecil counties have been constructed. The trail system has been designated priority segments of both the Star-Spangled Banner and Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trails.
