Special Election Results: City of Havre de Grace to Purchase Water Street Property
The $1.5 million purchase of waterfront property in Havre de Grace went to referendum Tuesday, and more than 700 people voted.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — Havre de Grace residents voted Tuesday to authorize the city's purchase of property along Water Street. The city held a special election about the proposed $1.5 million purchase of 627 and 649 Water Street for the purpose of creating a city park.
The results of the referendum were as follows, according to Havre de Grace city officials: 561 people voted for the purchase, 199 voted against it and one person left the question blank.
Harford County government, which owned the Water Street land, requested citizens take a vote on whether to buy the land from the county before the end of the calendar year. The city had already put down $400,000 as a deposit to Harford County and would pay the remaining $1.1 million over 20 years.
