• Basement fire in Charles County sends one occupant, one firefighter to hospital (dailydispatch.com) — Firefighters from three counties responded to a serious basement fire on Rivers Reach Lane in Hughesville on October 21, where they quickly contained flames in a two-story home. One resident suffered non-life-threatening burns and a Calvert County firefighter was hospitalized for evaluation, underscoring ongoing fire and medical response activity right in the Hughesville community.
   

• Hughesville Man Gets 10-Year Suspended Sentence, 60 Days to Serve in Domestic Assault Case (smnewsnet.com) — A Hughesville man has been sentenced to 60 days in jail and 10 years suspended for a September domestic assault on his father that also involved striking a Charles County deputy on Prince Frederick Road in Hughesville. The case, resolved October 23, also details earlier 2026 drug charges in Calvert County that were ultimately placed on the stet docket.
