• Why the Chitlin' Circuit Stopped in North Brentwood (hyattsvillewire.com) — Sis' Tavern in nearby North Brentwood, once a key stop on the historic Chitlin' Circuit, was brought back to life in the 2010s with major help from the Hyattsville Community Development Corporation. The restored venue, now available for private rentals, connects Hyattsville residents to a rich Black cultural legacy just up Route 1 while offering a unique local event space.
   

• 17-Year-Old Girl Killed in Northwest DC Shooting That Also Wounded Man (shorenewsnetwork.com) — A 17-year-old from Hyattsville, Daniyah Ford, died after a Saturday evening shooting on New Hampshire Avenue NW in Washington, DC, that also wounded an adult man. Police are still searching for the shooter and are offering up to $25,000 for tips, urging anyone with information to contact DC authorities as the investigation continues.
   

• Homes Rule: In D.C., Music Has Always Found a Home in Ordinary Houses (washingtoncitypaper.com) — A local hip-hop artist has turned her Hyattsville home into the Secret Garden, a backyard concert series drawing about 40 guests for intimate hip-hop and R&B performances. The series, produced with label Luminary Sounds and occasionally sponsored by a restaurant, gives regional musicians a welcoming stage while keeping D.C.'s DIY house-show tradition alive just over the Maryland line.
