Another hit on the mental health professionals

As we are all saddened by the case of the shootings at the Navy Yard, did you ever stop to think why he did it?  Did you ever think why all these shootings at schools and other public places?  What makes people do these kinds of things?
Well, some think they know why it is happening and they might be onto something.  I read two different articles about maybe it is the psychiatric drugs they were on or the withdrawal from them.
Again, nobody is looking into this and they aren't watching what they are putting into people.  Who gets rich from these drugs?  Who is lining who's pocket with drugs that are dangerous?  Can't we find safer medications to give our mental health patients?
Does our mental health professionals get passes for everything they do?  This is just another example of how we need to have tougher laws with the professionals.

Fact: At least 31 school shootings and/or school-related acts of violence have been committed by those taking or withdrawing from psychiatric drugs resulting in 162 wounded and 72 killed (in other school shootings, information about their drug use was never made public—neither confirming or refuting if they were under the influence of prescribed drugs).
Fact: Between 2004 and 2012, there have been 14,656 reports to the U.S. FDA’s MedWatch system on psychiatric drugs causing violent side effects including: 1,415 cases of homicidal ideation/homicide, 3,287 cases of mania & 8,219 cases of aggression. Note:  The FDA estimates that less than 1% of all serious events are ever reported to it, so the actual number of side effects occurring are most certainly higher.

In this next article it states that "It took less than 48 hours to learn that Washington Navy Yard shooter, Aaron Alexis, is another in a long line ofpsychiatric drug-induced perpetrators."

They found out he was taking Trazodone which the side effects are these: TRAZODONE ORAL WARNINGS

Antidepressant medications are used to treat a variety of conditions, includingdepression and other mental/mood disorders. These medications can help preventsuicidal thoughts/attempts and provide other important benefits. However, studies have shown that a small number of people (especially people younger than 25) who take antidepressants for any condition may experience worsening depression, other mental/mood symptoms, or suicidal thoughts/attempts. Therefore, it is very important to talk with the doctor about the risks and benefits of antidepressant medication (especially for people younger than 25), even if treatment is not for a mental/mood condition.

Tell the doctor immediately if you notice worsening depression/other psychiatric conditions, unusual behavior changes (including possible suicidal thoughts/attempts), or other mental/mood changes (including new/worsening anxietypanic attacks, trouble sleeping, irritability, hostile/angry feelings, impulsive actions, severe restlessness, very rapid speech). Be especially watchful for these symptoms when a new antidepressant is started or when the dose is changed.
Now with that being said let's look at what could have happened or what could happen.  You have a man who lives by himself and he is taking this medication.  he starts to get worse depression, unusual behavior, hostile and angry feelings along with the impulsive actions.  Is he going to be in the right frame of mind to tell the doctor?  Is there anyone else around that would know to tell the doctor?  Why are you putting him on something that could case these effects if he is living by himself and nobody is around to keep an eye on him?  Come on I don't have a degree in psych but I can tell you that much myself.

"What part of these national and international warnings, the FDA’s Black Box Warnings and the lengthy list of shooters (including Alexis) with psychiatric drug use, don’t lawmakers understand? How many more innocent people have to die because lawmakers lacked the courage to explore the possibility of a connection between psychiatric drugs and violence?"  Not only your lawmakers but the professionals themselves who prescribes these medicines.  Why chance it?  When you are prescribing these drugs is like putting the bullets in the pill bottles and given them permission to go out and shoot someone.
