Arundel High Grad Named CEO of Lockheed Martin

Christopher Kubasik of the class of 1979 will head one of the world's largest defense contractors.

graduate Christopher Kubasik has been named the top executive of Lockheed Martin, the nation's largest defense contractor.

Kubasik, who graduated from Arundel in 1979, will become chief executive officer following the retirement of current CEO Bob Stevens, the company announced Thursday.

Kubasik will officially take over the CEO role on Jan. 1, 2013. He has most recently served as the company's president and chief operating officer. Prior to that, he was a vice president of the Electronic Systems business area and also served as the chief financial officer.

After graduating from Arundel, Kubasik attended the University of Maryland, where he earned a degree in accounting.

Lockheed Martin said in a press release that Kubasik also earned an executive engineering certificate from Carnegie Mellon University in 2008. In 2004, he completed the Systems Acquisition Management Course for Flag Officers at the Defense Acquisition University.

Lockheed Martin is based in Bethesda and employs 123,000 people worldwide, including many in the Odenton and Fort Meade area.
