Body of Missing Boater Recovered in Cornfield Creek

The 63-year-old Pasadena man had fallen overboard while crabbing. Latest in a tragic summer of boating and swimming accidents.

Searchers recovered the body Friday afternoon of a missing Pasadena boater who had fallen overboard while crabbing in the Cornfield Creek, according to the Maryland Natural Resources Police.

The victim was identified as Ronald Gressitt, 63.

Anne Arundel County Fire divers located the body after five hours of searching.

Gressitt was reportedly on the boat with his wife, who was driving. Police say she looked back and saw him stumble and fall out of the boat, according to the Washington Post report.

There have been several fatalities in Maryland waters this summer.

Last weekend, two women died after they were ejected after their boat struck a piling off the Key Bridge. Six others were hospitalized in that incident.

The body of a Silver Spring man was found July 1 after his boat capsized days earlier near Terrapin Beach Park.

A 7-year-old girl died June 28 after a race boat performing in the Thunder on the Narrows left the track and struck a group of spectators. Seven others were injured.

In June, a 22-year-old swimmer died at the Patapsco State Park after he went swimming in a prohibited area.
