Do You Like Punctuality, Mr. Kramer?

Dear Postmaster General,

When you are sitting around with your Postmaster Lieutenants trying to figure out why you're losing billions of dollars per year, consider focusing some attention on some customer service training.

I was among a group of six or seven people waiting at the Odenton Post Office this morning for it to open. The posted hours claimed it would open at 8:30 a.m. (or 0830 for you); it didn't open until 8:50 a.m. (0850). That's twenty minutes we customers waited with ever-decreasing patience.

The older lady with a cane decided it was not worth waiting and left. Is this how you plan to turn around the USPS's financial woes? Is this acceptable behavior and treatment toward customers?

I'd like to think it was an isolated event, but one guy said the last time he had come at "opening" time he was also forced to wait 10-15 minutes before the door was unlocked and the post office opened for business.

Do you think the local FedEx or UPS store opened late? I can pretty much guarantee they opened on time. I can only assume the difference being the accountability of your quasi-Federal employees vs. the private sector employees.

It is quite frustrating for us customers when a routine errand to the post office is ruined because of postal employees' failure to open at the scheduled, posted time. I am sure at least one or two of those in line had somewhere better to be and were probably late getting there.

Today, I find your Postal Service unacceptable. Maybe it is time to bring in Wilford Brimley and give him a real chance to run the Postal Service: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nKlzQo3Wqo.
