A quote from an article by Mike Ricksecker with the link to the entire article below. "On the surface, the lost license of a therapist who sexually exploited his patients appears to be a just punishment. After all, removing such a practicing therapist from his office will prevent him or her from continuing to use that position of power to exploit patients. A moment of triumphant relief cascades down the shoulders of those that had been victims, an apparent victory for those whose trust in personal psychological care has been utterly shattered. However, that relief is short-lived. In most states across the country that is as far as the system will admonish such a crime, and it doesn't prevent the abusive therapist from practicing again elsewhere."
It is unbelievable that a board can conclude that someone did do wrong but decide not to prosecute. Come on Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists it is not rocket scientist to do the right thing. Why would you want a convicted felon helping our people? Why would you not want to prosecute those same people when you find them guilty of sexual abuse? Why would you protect them from this? What do you get by doing this?
These are the kind of people that are in charge of making sure our therapists and professionals are safe for us to go to. Would you want to put your trust in them? You are almost better off to walk down the street and just pick someone at random to hear your problems, you have just as much chance of someone actually listening to you without abusing you as going to a therapist in Maryland. Or better yet just go to your local bar and talk to the bartender. At least there you have courage brought on by drinking and if you really liked what the bartender said you can go back. First, you aren't getting abused as they are behind the bar doing their job and second you aren't paying for their advice.
Get it together Maryland and get your therapists under control.
