Lack Of Water Forces 2 Schools To Close Doors

Two schools were closed Thursday after a car crash impacted the Anne Arundel County Public School's water supply, a spokesperson told Patch.

ODENTON-SEVERN, MD — Two Anne Arundel County Public Schools were forced to close on Thursday due to a lack of water.

AACPS spokesperson Bob Mosier told Patch that both the Severn Run High School and the Center of Applied Technology North would be closed.

No other schools were impacted.

Mosier said water supplies to schools were impacted by a car crash that happened Wednesday night. He told Patch that school officials were informed that a vehicle had "struck a fire hydrant."

"That created all kinds of havoc," Mosier said.

The school system announced Severn Run's closure at 7:10 a.m.

Mosier said the decision to close was made after the district determined that a quick transition to a virtual learning day was not likely.

The school district will be filing a request for an emergency one-day waiver for Severn Run High School, he said.

The Center of Applied Technology North closed at 10:30 a.m., canceling afternoon sessions. "Morning session students will be transported back to their home schools, where they will complete the remainder of the school day," a notice read.

Patch has reached out to the Anne Arundel County Police Department for details of the crash.
