Severn Man Charged in 3 Armed Gas Station Robberies

Anne Arundel County Police say the suspect held up gas stations in Jessup, Baltimore and Laurel.

SEVERN, MD — A Severn man is charged with robbing three gas stations around Anne Arundel County in the past week, authorities say.

Jaton Tyer, 39, from the 8300 block of Deer Run Court in Severn, was arrested Monday for three commercial robberies, say Anne Arundel County Police.

Investigators believed the same suspect was responsible for all three armed holdups, and that eventually led them to Tyer.

The first robbery in the string was the Sunoco gas station in the 2700 block of Annapolis Road in Jessup on April 17. The store clerk told police the suspect entered the store with a handgun, and demanded money. The clerk handed over cash and the suspect fled on foot.

Two days later, a man with a handgun walked into the BP gas station, 3396 Laurel Fort Meade Road, and demanded cash. The clerk slammed the service counter window closed and the suspect fled without any money.

Later on April 19, the Sunoco gas station at 5731 Ritchie Highway in Baltimore was robbed by a man armed with a handgun. He took an undisclosed amount of cash.

After conducting several searches for evidence and in-depth interviews, Tyer was taken into custody and charged with all three of the commercial robberies, police said.
