County Exec Kevin Kamenetz and County Councilwoman Vicki Almond Tour Medifast
Officials a get close look at a locally-based top business.
Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz and County Councilwoman Vicki Almond got an up-close look Wednesday at the headquarters of the company named No. 1 Small Company in America in 2010 by Forbes magazine.
Brad McDonald, executive chairman of the Board of Medifast, gave Kamenetz and Almond a personal tour of the company's headquarters and manufacturing plant in Owings Mills.
Medifast, a weight-management products and program company, employs 350 people at its Owings Mills site and grew by $90 million last year, according to McDonald.

"We're committed to USA manufacturing. We're committed to Baltimore County," said McDonald, who noted he has been pressured by Wall Street and others in the business world to relocate.
He complimented state and county officials for creating a training environment that has allowed Medifast to partner with area universities, churches and other local companies to become a profitable and growing competitor in its industry.

Medifast earned the Forbes ranking for being the best publicly traded company with sales nder $1 billion.
Kamenetz called Medifast a great "well-run" company and said he wanted to make sure "CEOs and CFOs know we value them ... and we want to maintain those relationships here."
