County Names First Black Female Fire Lieutenant
Fire Lt. Twana Allen began her journey with the Baltimore County Fire Department in Woodlawn, Randallstown stations.

The Baltimore County Fire Department announced Tuesday the promotion of its first African American female to the rank of fire lieutenant.
Fire Lt. Twana Allen is a 14-year veteran of the department, where she began as a volunteer at the Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Company, according to a statement from the Baltimore County Fire Department.
Her professional career began as an EMT at the Randallstown station in 2001, then she was promoted to paramedic in 2002 and became a fire specialist in 2009, the statement said. Allen is a native of New Jersey, according to the statement.

According to the fire department, 20 percent of its members are women.
