Over 30 Rescued From Baltimore County Floodwaters: Officials

Flooding resulted in dozens of water rescues in Baltimore County Saturday, fire officials said.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — More than 30 people were stranded in vehicles or buildings Saturday in Baltimore County, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department, which said the county's swift water rescue teams assisted them.

The water rescues came as the eastern part of the county was under a flash flood warning over the weekend from about 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

By Sunday morning, 4.16 inches of rain had fallen in Rossville, and 3.55 inches of rainfall had been reported in Sparrows Point, based on preliminary data submitted by trained weather spotters to the National Weather Service.

"The storm hit the Eastern Side of Baltimore County extremely hard," Middle River Volunteer Fire & Rescue reported.

Its crews handled 24 calls for service from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the organization, which noted its dive unit, engine, medic and truck were among those that served.


At one point, officials urged drivers to avoid Pulaski Highway altogether.

During the storm, a tree fell on a home in Essex and lightning also hit a condominium in Parkville, fire officials said.

The tree heavily damaged apartments in the 900 block of Garden Drive, displacing two families, according to authorities, who said building engineers and the Red Cross responded.

Several families were also displaced when lightning hit a condo in the 2200 block of Lowells Glen Road in Parkville, officials reported.
