Community Mourns Loss of Perry Hall Family

Vigil drew those grieving the deaths of Julian Roary Sr., 47; Ian Roary, 10; and Julian Roary Jr., 12.

Three people killed in a Perry Hall murder-suicide were remembered during a weekend prayer service in Parkville.

Cub Scouts, teammates and loved ones of the Roary family converged at St. Isaac Jogues Roman Catholic Church Sunday night, where they shared memories during a vigil and threw notes to the deceased into a fire afterward, according to WJZ.

T.J., the stepbrother of 10-year-old Ian Roary and 12-year-old Julian Roary Jr., described the two boys as “never...without a smile on their face,” according to WBAL.

Shantal Brown-Winn, Julian Roary Sr.’s girlfriend, found the three bodies upstairs in their home along with a suicide note, according to WJZ. Police said that financial difficulties was believed to be a factor in the shootings.

“Even though if it was hard times, [Roary] planned out that he was going to pay that rent, he was going to pay the light and gas...’til it got to be too much,” Brown-Winn said at the vigil.

Julian Roary Sr. worked for nearly a year through a temp agency as director of human resources at the Baltimore City Parking Authority, according to The Baltimore Sun. His assignment there reportedly ended a week before the triple shooting.

“I’m sure, as he said in his letter, that he’ll always be with us,” Brown-Winn said at the vigil.

The family will be buried Friday after a service at the Vaughn Greene Funeral Home on Liberty Road, WJZ reported.
