What Should Perry Hall's Newest Elementary School Be Named?

The public can vote on two names that are contenders for the new Perry Hall elementary school under construction.

PERRY HALL, MD — More than 1,800 submissions came in during the naming contest for the new Perry Hall elementary school, according to Baltimore County Public Schools. Two entries have emerged as the front-runners, officials announced on Friday, and the public can vote on which should be the winner.

"Honeygo Elementary" and "Honeygo Run Elementary" are the two finalists for the new school, which is being built at 4816 Joppa Road near Honeygo Boulevard and the Honeygo Run stream.

The online voting period for the new name will run from through 4:45 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22.

"The closer we get to opening our new school, the more the excitement is building," Charlene Behnke, principal of the new school, said in a statement. "The naming process is one more way to welcome the community into our journey."

The results of the naming competition will be reported at the Board of Education meeting on Feb. 20, 2018. There will be opportunity for public comment at the board meeting on March 6, 2018, and a the school board will vote on the name at the meeting on April 17, 2018.

The $49 million school will have 725 seats and is scheduled to open in fall 2018.
