Homes Evacuated After Gas Main Struck Near Pikesville

Baltimore County emergency officials said that eight residences were evacuated.

PIKESVILLE, MD — Several residences were evacuated due to a gas leak Monday morning in the Pikesville area, according to authorities. Officials said the leak occurred due to construction work on Marnat Road.

People were asked to avoid the area of the 3100 to 3200 blocks of Marnat Road until after noon.

Construction crews hit a 4-inch high-pressure gas main while they were working in the area Monday morning, authorities reported.

Baltimore County firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 9:14 a.m. and initially evacuated four homes, then four more. Eight residences on Marnat Road had been evacuated as of 10:30 a.m., according to Baltimore County emergency management officials.

BGE was working to fix the utility line. The company expected the repair would take until 12:30 p.m., Baltimore County emergency management officials reported.
