4 People Hospitalized After Fiery Tractor-Trailer Crash On I-270

Several people were hospitalized late Tuesday in connection to a fiery crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 270.

ROCKVILLE, MD — A fiery crash on Interstate 270 that involved a tractor-trailer and multiple cars left several people hospitalized late Tuesday, officials said.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer said the collision and vehicle fire happened at about 11:30 p.m., near the Montrose Road exit on I-270.

Officials said four people were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries.

Footage from the scene showed one tractor-trailer on fire, as at least four cars sustained serious damage.

Photos showed large pieces of concrete rubble, from where cars struck the median, strewn across the roadway.

The crash temporarily forced the closure of all north- and southbound thru lanes at Montrose Road for several hours, allowing traffic to bypass only on local lanes.

Hazmat specialists were called to the scene to address the fuel leak from the tractor-trailer.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
