According to developers, the shopping center is generating 500 construction jobs and it will employ 800 full- and part-time staffers when it opens.
Montgomery County Council member Craig Rice called the outlets a “game changer” for Clarksburg and said it would put the area on the map as a destination, much like the Maryland SoccerPlex did for Boyds.
Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett also touted the jobs coming to the Upcounty and noted there would also be a positive impact on Frederick County to the north of Montgomery County as well.
So what kind of stores can you expect here? Developers said they are not ready to name them yet but stressed the outlets would offer high quality designer and name brands offering savings of 25 to 65 percent.
The Clarksburg Premium Outlets center is a joint venture between Simon, Streetscape Partners and New England Development. Representatives from each company attended the groundbreaking ceremony. There were also representatives from the county’s Planning Department, Clarksburg community and other supporters of the project.
