ROCKVILLE, MD — A GoFundMe page has been established for a Walter Johnson High School senior who was hit by a car in Rockville earlier this month.

Eyal Hadad, 17, was seriously injured when an SUV struck him as he was crossing the street to board his school bus on the morning of Dec. 13, according to authorities. The pedestrian-involved collision comes less than 24 hours after a fourth grade student at Bradley Hills Elementary School was fatally struck by her school bus in Bethesda.

The 12th grader "suffered a serious head injury" and needed surgery, the GoFundMe organizer said. Hadad is reportedly still fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit.

"As a community, we all want to offer a support system and therefore we decided to open this route of financial support for members of the community that are asking to take part in Eyal's recovery," the organizer wrote.

The GoFundMe page was created a week ago, and has since raised $60,627. The goal is to reach $118,000.

"It is very early to assess the exact needs and expenses at this time. However, the implications of this crisis on the family members fighting for Eyal, will have major impact on the family," the organizer wrote.

While it is unclear what, exactly, the funds will be used for, the organizer says the community's "generous support will ease the burden on the family and help with any unexpected costs while fighting this battle."
