Fake Delivery Driver Tries To Rob Rockville Homeowner: Police

Police are looking for a man they say posed as a delivery driver and tried to rob a Rockville homeowner. The encounter turned violent.

ROCKVILLE, MD — A man pretending to be a delivery driver tried to rob a Rockville homeowner at gunpoint Friday, Montgomery County police said.

Authorities say the incident happened in the 7200 block of Titonka Way shortly before 1:37 p.m.

The homeowner told police that the suspect — who was carrying a box and wearing clothing similar to that worn by delivery drivers — knocked on the door and produced a handgun.

According to police, the homeowner yelled out to a second resident as the suspect forced his way into the home.

"During this encounter, the suspect entered the foyer of the home and threatened to kill the two victims. He pushed one of the victims and struck the other victim on the head with his handgun," police said.

The suspect then fled from the home and dropped the box in the driveway. Police said the box contained a duffel bag.

The victim who was assaulted suffered a head injury and was treated by first responders on the scene.

A neighbor's home surveillance system caught the suspect running to the passenger side of a white van after the attempted home invasion robbery.
