As winter weather drenched the region, Maryland State Police said its officers handled more than 70 crashes on Wednesday before 1 p.m. During the sleet-snow event, schools in Baltimore, Carroll, Cecil, Harford, Howard and Montgomery counties closed, while those in Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties and Baltimore City delayed opening.
The wintry mix across Maryland led to icy mishaps on area roads and at a suburban bakery.
Roads may be slick across the region through the evening, and transportation officials advise drivers to reduce their speeds. Sidewalks, roads and bridges may be slippery.
