REDI Celebrates National Economic Development Week May 6-11
REDI joins economic development organizations nationwide to increase awareness of the positive work economic developers do

Rockville Economic Development, Inc. (REDI) is proud to celebrate National Economic Development Week from May 6-11, 2019, to recognize the significant contributions that positive economic development adds to the Rockville community.
Economic development helps steward the following priorities in Rockville:
- Government policies that meet broad economic objectives including high employment and sustainable growth.
- Policies and programs that explicitly improve the business climate through specific efforts, business finance, marketing, neighborhood development, business retention and expansion, technology transfer, real estate development, and others.
Specifically, through its incentive programs and collaboration with other city, county, and state entities, REDI helps promote Rockville’s economic well-being to create, retain, and expand jobs that facilitate growth, enhance wealth, and provide a stable tax base. Additionally, REDI supports entrepreneurism to help establish the next generation of women-owned businesses through its Maryland Women’s Business Center initiative. Finally, REDI remains committed to attract and retain high-quality jobs, develop vibrant communities, and improve the quality of life in the region through engagement with a variety of partners that support education, arts & culture, recreation, entertainment, dining, and more.

“National Economic Development Week is an important community celebration that recognizes the continuous efforts toward improving the overall economic health of the City of Rockville and enhancing the quality of life of its residents,” said Cynthia Stewart, Executive Director of Rockville Economic Development, Inc. “REDI is pleased to celebrate the work and collaboration of all of our partners that help achieve our mutual goals and make Rockville such a great place to live and work.”
Now in its fourth year, National Economic Development Week was created by the International Economic Development Council, the largest professional membership organization for economic developers, in 2016 to recognize the unique role that economic development has in creating vibrant communities with strong economies. More than 250 communities participated in the 2018 campaign across the United States and Canada through official proclamations, local community events, and informational campaigns.
