Adega Wine Cellars & Café Shutters 'Indefinitely' In Downtown Silver Spring

The popular neighborhood haunt has closed indefinitely with little notice.

SILVER SPRING, MD — The popular downtown Silver Spring restaurant Adega Wine Cellars and Café has closed "indefinitely," according to a sign posted on their door Feb. 19.

Adega opened in August 2003 at 8519 Fenton St., making it one of the first pioneers of the revitalization of Downtown Silver Spring.

Owner Walter Rhee wanted to establish a neighborhood hangout where he could showcase his love of gourmet cooking and fine wine.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, Adega will be closed indefinitely on February 19, 2017. We thank all of you for your years of support and patronage!"

Patch reached out the owner, who wasn't available for comment as of Wednesday morning. We will update if we hear back.

A user posted to Yelp about the closing, saying there was little notice that it was happening:

"Adega used to be one of my favorite spots in Silver Spring until there was a change in management and it went downhill. I still continued to go for the wine selection. Today I went on around 9 p.m. and the wine racks were empty... I was told that the restaurant was closing down as of Feb. 19. I am so sad, I felt bad for the employees as well. They said they were notified that same day. I can't believe one of my favorite hang out places is closing down!"

Silver Spring residents have also posted to Adega's Facebook Page:

"Please say it isn't so! Adega can't be closed! This was our place to go for dinner... at least once, maybe twice a week," one user posted.

Another user said: "Why are you closed? Where will I go for delicious wine, great burgers, and wonderful service?"
