Celebrating 20 Years of Science! ExploraVision Kicks Off 2012 Submissions

For 20 years, hundreds of thousands of students across the U.S. and Canada have competed in Toshiba/NSTA’s ExploraVision, the world’s largest K-12 science and technology competition. ExploraVision, sponsored by Toshiba and administered by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), was created to help motivate young students to excel in science and technology. The program challenges students working in teams of 2-4 to imagine technologies that could exist 20 years into the future, thereby empowering the next generation of scientists, entrepreneurs and innovators. Applications for this year’s competition are available online at exploravision.org and are due by February 1, 2012; there is no cost for students to submit.

The four first-place teams will each receive a $10,000 Savings Bond valued at maturity. Students on second-place teams will each receive a $5,000 bond valued at maturity. The eight teams will also receive an all-expenses-paid trip with their families, mentor, and coach to Washington, DC for a gala awards weekend in June 2012 where students will be formally recognized for their creativity and accomplishments. Each of the 24 regional winning teams will receive a Toshiba laptop for their school and each member of the regional winning teams will receive a Toshiba HD Camcorder. In an ExploraVision first, the teacher who submits the most student projects this year will receive a Toshiba tablet PC.
