Graduating Students of Programs from Nine State Universities to be Honored;
NBC 4 Anchor Jim Vance Will Deliver Keynote Address at This Year’s Celebration
Rockville, Md.—The Universities at Shady Grove (USG) – a University System of Maryland campus in Montgomery County that offers students more than 70 degree programs from nine different state universities – will honorFall 2011 and Spring 2012 candidates for graduation on Thursday, May 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Award-winning NBC4 News Anchor Jim Vance will deliver the keynote address for this year’s celebration, which will honor 552 baccalaureate candidates from high-demand programs in healthcare, education, business, technology and science, as well as 38 doctor of pharmacy graduates.
“This event is extraordinarily unique in that we have the opportunity to honor the accomplishments of thesestudents who will be graduating with degrees from our university partners, but also celebrate the nurturing campus environment that is USG,” said Dr. Stewart Edelstein, Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for the University System of Maryland and the Executive Director at USG. “We’re proud of these students for all they have achieved and thankful for the dedication of our partners in education, community, and business that help make USG such an innovative and vibrant campus.”

In total, more than 4,100 students will have nowreceived bachelor’s degrees from programs at USG sincethe campus began offering full-time, daytime programs in the fall of 2000. At USG, bachelor’s degree programs begin at the junior level, serving students who transfer into university programs with 60 credits – most often from nearby community colleges, such as Montgomery College.
