Arc Baltimore Honors Enoch Pratt Free Library
Library named The Arc's 2022 Employer of Distinction for its efforts to hire people with developmental disabilities.
The Enoch Pratt Free Library has been named The Arc Baltimore’s 2022 Employer of Distinction.
The award, presented to the Pratt Library during The Arc Baltimore’s recent Annual Meeting and Awards Reception, was created to honor those companies that employ people with developmental disabilities and provide a supportive work environment that allows individuals to be successful and contribute to their employer’s success.
The Enoch Pratt Free Library is a historic institution in Baltimore City, founded on the principles of diversity and opportunity. In 2021 the Pratt Library began a partnership with The Arc Baltimore and hired a person with disabilities during the pandemic. The library sought additional candidates who lived in or were close to the areas where they were applying, allowing them to directly support their communities.

Currently, the Pratt Library has two people as custodial staff for its Walbrook and Hampden locations. Both individuals have thrived due to the good fit and natural supports, namely staff members who welcomed them to the Pratt Library and continually help them to succeed.
The Arc Baltimore’s Annual Meeting and Awards Reception recognizes those who have gone above and beyond in their service to The Arc, from community partners and volunteers to supported individuals and staff members. The 2022 Annual Meeting included award recognitions for Volunteer Service, Foster Care Excellence, Self-Advocacy, and School Inclusion, among others. In addition, The Arc Baltimore’s new board of directors and officers were elected during the Annual Meeting.

The Arc Baltimore supports people with developmental disabilities (autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, intellectual disability) to lead fulfilling lives with a sense of belonging, purpose, and meaningful relationships. The Arc provides employment training and support, day and residential services, family support and education, treatment foster care, respite care, public policy advocacy, and information and referrals.
