Arc Baltimore Presents Public Service Award to Senator Klausmeier

Senator Kathy Klausmeier is the winner of The Arc Baltimore’s annual Public Service Award. Presented during The Arc’s 2022 Annual Meeting and Awards Reception, The Public Service Award recognizes individuals or groups that advance The Arc’s mission by increasing public awareness and advancing the rights and quality of life for persons with developmental disabilities.

Through her years in public service, Senator Klausmeier has always listened to the voices in the developmental disabilities community. She has sought further understanding of funding needs and responded with support to help providers like The Arc stay ahead of minimum wage hikes mandated by the State.

Senator Klausmeier has met with many constituents on The Arc’s annual Developmental Disabilities Day in Annapolis, speaking with self-advocates, families, and staff, listening, asking questions, and supporting the organization through her votes. This year, Senator Klausmeier helped to make an important bill better by supporting amendments to the Time to Care legislation that will help developmental disabilities providers comply without financial hardship.

The Arc Baltimore’s Annual Meeting and Awards Reception recognizes those who have gone above and beyond in their service to The Arc, from community partners and volunteers to supported individuals and staff members. The 2022 Annual Meeting included award recognitions for Volunteer Service, Foster Care Excellence, Citizenship, and Visionary Leadership, among others. In addition, The Arc Baltimore’s new board of directors and officers were elected during the Annual Meeting.

The Arc Baltimore supports people with developmental disabilities (autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, intellectual disability) to lead fulfilling lives with a sense of belonging, purpose, and meaningful relationships.
