Towson Residents Sheltered During Utility Work: Police

Fire, utility crews converged at Towson apartment complex to fix situation caused by accident, Baltimore County public safety officials say.

TOWSON, MD – Nearly a dozen fire trucks were stationed near an apartment building in Towson Tuesday after a contractor broke a gas line, public safety officials reported.

The contractor had been working on a 2-inch gas main outside The Quarters apartment complex when the pipe accidentally broke before 10 a.m., officials said.

Firefighters responded to the 900 block of Southerly Road and had 11 pieces of equipment on standby as a precaution while BGE crews made repairs, according to authorities.

BGE shut off the broken gas main before 1 p.m., officials said. According to the utility company, approximately five customers were without power in the area, and it should be restored by 4:15 p.m.

Residents were asked to shelter in place but were free to leave if needed, Baltimore County public safety officials reported.

Nobody was injured, and it was estimated the repairs would take several hours, officials said before noon.

TOWSON, MD – First responders are working at the scene of a gas leak near Fairmount Avenue and Dulaney Valley Road Tuesday morning in Towson, officials say.

A gas leak drew fire crews to the 900 block of Southerly Road, Baltimore County public safety officials reported at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Authorities said BGE was at the scene as well.
