Michael Phelps Ice Cream Available for Limited Time

BALTIMORE, MD — Talk about cool: A Baltimore ice cream shop has added a new flavor to its menu to honor Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time.

The Charmery in Hampden recently debuted "Phelps Phlapjack Gold" among its array of homemade flavors.

Named for Phelps — who grew up in Rodgers Forge and trained at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club — the ice cream incorporates pancakes from Pete's Grille, a nearby neighborhood diner where he's been known to chow down on chocolate chip flapjacks after practice.

The ice cream tastes like maple with chocolate chip waffles and is described on the menu as "toasted pancakes from Pete's Grille infused with maple syrup, chocolate chips and a golden marshmallow swirl."

The flavor came onto the scene days after Phelps won his 23rd gold medal and 28th Olympic medal overall.

The Charmery made a "short stack" of the limited edition flavor, creating just 30 gallons, WBAL reported. It hit cones last week and will be served until it runs out.

When Patch visited The Charmery on Saturday, staff said nearly 40 percent of the customers coming in that day had been ordering the Phelps Phlapjack Gold.

The big question: Will Phelps himself have a scoop? Currently, he's in Arizona at his new home with fiancée Nicole Johnson and baby son Boomer, so he may have to race back before Phelps Phlapjack Gold is all gone.
