Suspect Identified from Monkton Manhunt

Police allege a Monkton man hid from police in an animal hospital after threatening his girlfriend with a gun.

MONKTON, MD —A Monkton man is charged with assault and burglary related to events that sparked a manhunt Wednesday morning in Baltimore County, police said.

Jacob Ryan Beckett, 34, of the 16900 block of York Road, is charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, two counts of second-degree burglary and reckless endangerment.

Authorities allege Beckett threatened his girlfriend with a gun inside an apartment in the 16900 block of York Road, then burglarized and hid in two nearby businesses, including an animal hospital, to elude police.

Officials said that inside the apartment Beckett discharged a gun and threatened his girlfriend, who took the firearm from him.

Responding to an urgent request for a welfare check at 5:11 a.m. Wednesday at the apartment, officers found a 38-year-old woman with minor injuries. Police said she was not shot.

Beckett left the apartment before police arrived, then allegedly broke into Mount Carmel Animal Hospital and stayed there for approximately three minutes. The animal hospital is in the same block as the apartment.

"While police were responding to the shots fired call, a 911 call was received from inside the business," according to a statement from the Baltimore County Police Department. "Beckett then broke into a Nationwide Insurance office nearby. At approximately 5:16 a.m., a call was received from the business from a male who identified himself as 'Mike.'" Nationwide Insurance is also in the same block as the apartment and the animal hospital.

By noon, officials said Beckett was taken into custody, located behind a trailer for Meadowcroft Towing.

Beckett is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
