The Health Center at Ward & West is once again offering flu shots to all faculty,
staff and students this year.

Dr. Matthias Goldstein, director of Student Health Services, says getting the flu vaccine is important every year but that it is especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“You have two possible offenders that can be making someone sick,” he says. “If you’ve
got flu going around, and you have the novel coronavirus going around, and you can
protect yourself against one of them, that’s the smartest approach.”

No appointment is necessary to get a flu vaccine from the Health Center. Faculty and
staff must bring their OneCard, and students must bring their OneCard and insurance
card. Flu shots are available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Goldstein recommends anyone who can get the flu vaccine to do so.

“We’ve already got the vaccine for the flu in our building. We’re already giving it
out,” he says.

Meanwhile, the Health Center continues to provide free COVID-19 testing for all faculty,
students and staff. While appointments can be scheduled online for testing, they are not necessary.

COVID-19 testing at the Health Center is free, safe and noninvasive. Results are generally
available within three to five business days. The latest testing data, updated weekly,
is available on Towson University’s online dashboard.

Towson University also continues to monitor cases of COVID-19 among the campus community
with the Tigers Care QuickScan Check-in. It requires all students, faculty and staff
to check in every two weeks and monitor symptoms more frequently if they will be on
campus.
