Downtown Westminster Farmers' Market Still Going Strong!

Downtown Farmers' Market showcases great local produce through November. And check out this First Saturday, with live entertainment, cooking demos, pumpkin painting and more!

It’s October. The season for crisp air and crisp apples, steaming coffee and warm chili…and the Farmers’ Market downtown!Β  In spite of shorter days and cooler nights, the Westminster Farmers’ Market is still going strong every Saturday morning through November. The market, located on the Conaway parking lot on Route 27 by Emerald Hill Lane, is open every Saturday morning, from 8am to noon. Β The market continues to offer eggs, meats, fruits and vegetables throughout the fall.Β Tender lettuce has been replaced by arugula and mustard greens, and buckets that once housed sunny flowers are now holding vibrantly orange pumpkins. Β The offerings may have changed, but the local service and selection remains.Β  Berries are limited and may only be found in the pies and sweets for sale, but you’ll be sure to savor the juicy shiny apples that many of the producers are now selling. My favorite is the honey crisp apple -- a delicious, portable snack that is at once crunchy and sweet. Several vendors offer delectable baked goods that are either savory or sweet – a great treat to eat while you shop or to take home to share (mine rarely make it home…). Steaming hot coffee from Furnace Hills Coffee Company will sustain you while you peruse all that the fall market has to offer. The market will be open through Mid-November.

First Saturday, October 6

This Saturday, the Farmers’ Market will host a special β€œFirst Saturday” event, complete with many special offerings!Β  Check out the live music beginning at 10am, featuring the easy listening rock music of Chris Hurley. He’ll be playing your
rock and pop favorites up until noon! You can also enjoy a live cooking
demonstration at 10am from Lisa Simons, personal chef and owner of Whirled Peas. Simons will be crafting a creative culinary masterpiece based on what she calls a β€œmystery basket.”

β€œI will prepare a dish based on whatever is available at the market on Saturday, with products grown this past week in the area,” says Simons.

And that’s not all! There is no need to leave the kids home this week. Bring them to the market, where they can paint and decorate pumpkins (free while supplies last) while you shop!
