MASSACHUSETTS — A man has died after his kayak capsized off the shores of Cape Cod this past weekend.

Meanwhile, a commercial flight on its way from Boston to Florida had to make an emergency landing after police received a bomb threat.

Plus, Boston celebrated its annual Saint Patrick’s Day that has a tradition of nearly 300 years. However, it would not be the same without some attendees being put in handcuffs.

Kayaker Dies After Capsizing Saturday In Cape Waters

The town of Wellfleet’s first responders arrived on the scene shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday evening. The 22-year-old man was said to be wearing a green life jacket and drifting in the current. Less than two hours later, the kayaker was spotted and brought to shore. He was immediately transported to a local hospital in Hyannis, and later pronounced dead.

Bomb Threat Targets JetBlue Flight From Boston To FL: Authorities

State Police were notified Saturday morning by Massport officials that the port agency had received a phone call from an unidentified person claiming there was a bomb on a plane bound for Vero Beach. JetBlue flight 1231 then taxied to a remote area after landing in Florida “as a result of a possible security threat.” Troopers assigned to Boston Logan International Airport worked with anti-terrorism and intelligence authorities as well as officials in Florida to later confirm the threat was not credible.

Crowds Flock To South Boston For Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, Police Make 17 Arrests

The parade began at 11:30 a.m. instead of the traditional 1 p.m. start for a second straight year in an effort to mitigate potential “rowdy” behavior by attendees. The parade route was also followed in reverse, starting at Andrew Square instead of near the Broadway MBTA Station to honor the 250th anniversary of Evacuation Day and to help with traffic and safety concerns. Celtics star Jaylen Brown was present on one of the floats in the parade.

Danvers Women Killed, Bishop Fenwick Teen Student Charged In Death

Anthony DeMayo, 18, was arraigned in Salem District Court for the killing of Danvers resident Janet Swallow, 68. DeMayo was found walking the streets with a bloody knife on his person, according to Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker. A search warrant was executed at DeMayo’s Lynn home, and evidence was found that reportedly connected him to the killing.

No connection between DeMayo and Swallow has been established.

Massachusetts Under Wind Advisory, Flood Watch

The National Weather Service has put Massachusetts under both a wind advisory and a flood watch until 8 a.m. Tuesday. The NWS said that the winds have the potential to bring down tree limbs and cause power outages. In addition, some vehicles maybe difficult to drive. As for flooding, excessive runoff from heavy rainfall may result in the overflow of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac said the ground in the Greater Boston area should be warm enough for planting by Wednesday, April 8. However, this date is not absolute. It relies on historical climate data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Centers for Environmental Information, meaning there is still about a 30 percent chance of frost occurring after this average date. Some plants to start with in Massachusetts are broccoli, kale, lettuce, spinach, onions, and tomatoes snow peas, radishes, spinach, and lettuce.
